Knowledge can be anything. 1+1=2 is knowledge but how it is going to help you achieve your goal in your life, or play the game, or compete in your field of choosing, or anything else you want or need to do?
Set a roadmap.
You are moving from point A to B.
You need to fuel in enough gas to move.
Too far, you need a vehicle. (Too near, forget it!)
What kind of vehicle? What gas? Any spare parts or supplements or extra things you need to bring along?
To reach B, and say, lift the trophy at B and took a picture for memory, you need the whole supply to move from A to B and the balance of supply when you reach B needs to be enough for you to lift the trophy at B and took the picture.
Sure, you don’t have to know how much in total is needed, as long as whatever you need come just in time when you need it.
However it did show you need to allocate some extra during the journey from A to B, so that you can survive to the next top-up point, to top up your supply to continue your journey to B.
Strange but it is the same to knowledge. You need to have enough knowledge to move from A to B, A being who you are today and B being who you are later.
And you need to have specialized knowledge, enough for you to capture the key points so that you can survive to reach the next key points, where you top up the extra key points required to move towards B.
And for sure you need to allocate some extra or contingency specialized knowledge, as along the way, some specialized knowledge is not available until later.
Therefore, truly there is no ends to specialized knowledge. You can never have enough of specialized knowledge to begin with.
Unlike actual traveling from point A to B, if your vehicle stops you can move by foot and still reach there. But it will be too slow and you will be left behind if the same thing apply to knowledge, especially specialized knowledge.
Therefore you must always know where you want to go.
A direction will lead you to the specialized knowledge you need to get to the next station.
And, here comes the trick, competition is everywhere.
There might be someone faster than you and beat you along the way.
Try to find out why that someone is faster then, on why you lose.
Truly it gets boring when you keep on losing. The author feel you too.
You must then re-assess the situation, on whether the same direction is still worth pursuing or not, or you need a new direction.
But even if you get a new direction, the specialized knowledge that you have acquired previously, will help you along your new direction too.
But for it to be your competitive advantage, will be a different story, as you still need to compete with a new field of competitors. You need to see if they are better or faster than you.
Game of life, is nothing but a direction full of competition.
At least, lose for a reason. But try to win it in the end!
